On this date in 2001, Alabama experienced a then-record-breaking tornado outbreak, with 36 tornadoes touching down in a single day during the state’s secondary tornado season. The event caused widespread destruction, four fatalities, and highlighted the dangers of mobile homes during severe weather.

COOL, BREEZY AFTERNOON: Temperatures are in the 50s across most of Alabama this afternoon with a sunny sky and gusty northwest wind.
Sunshine, blue sky, and chilly temperatures are the story across Alabama today as afternoon highs are only in the low to mid 50s, while parts of North Alabama will likely remain the 40s.

COLD: Temperatures are in the 30s across most of Alabama early this morning with a clear sky. Most places are reporting a northwest wind of 5-10 mph; this means little frost, and it has also kept temperatures generally above freezing. Today will be sunny with a high in the 50s.

WINDY, COOL AFTERNOON: Temperatures are in the 50s and 60s across Alabama with a brisk north wind; wind gusts at mid-afternoon include 37 mph at Montgomery, 32 mph at Birmingham, 30 mph at Decatur, and 31 mph at Muscle Shoals, Selma, Prattville, and Greenville.
