RAW, COLD AFTERNOON: As expected, temperatures have been steadily falling across Alabama this afternoon, and some communities have reached the upper 30s over the northern quarter of the state. Some patchy light rain lingers over Central and South Alabama, but the storms we dealt with early this morning are long gone. Clouds cover all of our state now, but we expect clearing tonight as dry air works in.
The severe weather threat for Central Alabama has come to an end, and all that will be left will be light to moderate showers moving through ahead of a cold front, which is now located from the northeastern corner of the state to the southwestern corner of Central Alabama.
The storm which prompted the warning has moved out of the area.
Radar check at 9:30 shows that for the north and the northwestern parts of Central Alabama, the rainfall has now come to an end. Nearly all of the rain and thunderstorm activity has now pushed east of I-59 and I-20/59.
At 908 AM CST, a severe thunderstorm was located near Bleecker, or 9 miles southeast of Opelika, moving east at 55 mph.
At 827 AM CST, emergency management reported two road closures near the Alexandria area. Heavy rain continues to fall that will continue to cause urban and small stream flooding. Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding.
Heavy rainfall of 1-2 inches inches has occurred since 5 am CST this morning over the village creek drainage basin and a flood warning is now in effect for the Village Creek ay Avenue W.
At 803 AM CST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Martin Dam, or 10 miles north of Tallassee, moving east at 50 mph.
Heavy rainfall over the past 12 hours is creating water rises on the Black Warrior River At Selden Lock and Dam and a flood warning
is now in effect.
At 733 AM CST, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Deatsville to Booth, moving east at 35 mph.
A line of strong storms continues pushing east across Central Alabama this morning with loud thunder, heavy rain and gusty winds. There are reports for damage around Jemison in Chilton County.
At 623 AM CST, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles southeast of Marion, moving east at 50 mph.
LOUD EARLY MORNING STORMS: A band of thunderstorms with torrential rain and gusty winds has been moving through North/Central Alabama early this morning… heaviest rain is now south of I-20.
Heavier rain will push into the southern half of the state in coming hours, where SPC maintains a “marginal risk” of severe thunderstorms. The main threats are from gusty thunderstorm winds and small hail; the tornado threat is very low, but not zero.
